Do you have questions about this tour?
For those who do not want to or are unable to take as much time to cycle the whole Munich Lakes Tour, we have created this tour. Starting from the Bavarian capital, you will cycle to Lake Starnberg, the Lake Osterseen, Lake Riegsee, and Lake Staffelsee. Connected by scenic routes you will get from one baroque town to another. Treat yourself to a long weekend and enjoy it in a really Bavarian way!
Commencing in Munich, your cycling journey will lead you through Forstenrieder Park towards Lake Starnberg, meandering through Bavarian villages until you arrive at Murnau on Lake Staffelsee. En route to Bad Tölz, you'll also traverse the scenic Lake Kochel and Benediktbeuern before concluding the tour by following the Isar Cycle Path, ultimately returning to Munich via Grünwald on the final day.
Munich: The capital city of Bavaria is ideal for a sightseeing tour. Visit the City Hall and take a stroll in the English Garden! You can end your evening at the legendary Hofbräuhaus.
Starnberger See: Experience a natural idyll at Lake Starnberg, which stretches for 20.2 kilometers in length and spans 4.7 kilometers in width, with depths reaching up to 127.8 meters. It is the fifth-largest lake in Germany and was formed during the last Ice Age. The crystal-clear water and the backdrop of mountains invite you to dream.
Murnau: In Murnau on Lake Staffelsee, you can visit the Münter-Haus. It was the home of the artist Gabriele Münter, who lived there with Wassily Kandinsky. Because Kandinsky was of Russian origin, the building was also referred to as the "Russian House"
This cycling tour is categorized as an easy route. Steep inclines are rare, and if encountered, you can effortlessly push your bike. The journey mainly follows picturesque bike paths and secondary roads, with only brief sections on main roads. As most of the route is paved, you can enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride. Furthermore, there are natural trails that are easily traversable and provide scenic views throughout your journey.

Lake Starnberg, Lake Staffelsee, Lake Osterseen – idyllic waters are guaranteed on the Munich Lake Tour. Let yourself be surprised by art and culture, for example at the Münter House in Murnau or the town houses in Bad Tölz
Welcome briefing and bike fitting. The capital city of Bavaria is awaiting you and invites you to visit its many attractions (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus,…)
From Munich, the tour starts with a bike ride through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg, you will continue your tour on the bike path next to the lake to Ambach or even further to Bernried. Enjoy some time at the lake with its crystal clear waters and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.
Today, you will cycle on scenic trails through unspoilt Bavarian villages, past the Lake Osterseen and Lake Riegsee to Murnau am Staffelsee. On the way, there are many lakes which invite you to swim. In Murnau not only the Münterhaus is worth a visit. The connection between art and music in this town has always characterized the people and architecture.
On the fourth day you will pass Lake Kochlsee and Benediktbeuern and cycle through charming landscapes to Bad Tölz. The location at the crossroads of two trade routes - the river Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu - quickly became a thriving trading centre. The ornate mansions testify the golden age.
The Isar bike way leads you from Bad Tölz over Geretsried and Wolfratshausen directly to Grünwald. After a few short climbs you will arrive back in Bavaria’s state capital Munich. Individual departure or an additional night in Munich or the surrounding area.
Overall, this is a rather easy tour. A few short climbs can be conquered easily by pushing the bike. You will cycle on beautiful bike ways and minor roads. Main roads will only be used for short distances. The route is mostly paved; some longer passages are on natural roads which are in good condition.
