Vineyards and a small village on rolling hills in Tuscany

The essentials at a glance

Experience Tuscany's highlights on this challenging star tour from Montecatini Terme. Cycle through the Val di Nievole valley, descend from Monte Pisano to Pisa's Leaning Tower and the Mediterranean coast, explore medieval San Gimignano's towers, visit Leonardo da Vinci's birthplace in Vinci, and discover Lucca's historic city walls. Daily routes of 40-55 km traverse hilly terrain with cypress avenues, vineyards, and olive groves. Includes transfers, train rides to Florence and Viareggio.

Italy is an absolute dream destination, and Tuscany is one of its most beautiful regions. Gentle hills, vast vineyards, and sun-drenched olive groves line your route. After each stage, you’ll get to indulge in local cuisine—think pizza, pasta, wine, and a refreshing spritz. Art and architecture are just as much a part of your cycling experience as the region’s scenic highlights. This tour is based out of one hotel in Montecatini Terme, from which you’ll head out on six day-rides to some of Tuscany’s most iconic spots—including the Val di Nievole, Florence, Lucca, Vinci, and of course, the coast. Each evening, you’ll return to your carefully selected hotel, handpicked by us. Active travel meets dolce far niente—so what are you waiting for!

A bike tour in the heart of Italy is perfect from spring onwards. Tuscany, with its mild temperatures is perfect for a holiday away from the crowds of tourists. Even more so when you are travelling by bike! Take this chance for a summer cycling break until October. In total you will cover around 240 kilometres, all in the beautiful landscape of Italy’s picture perfect region.

  • Gems of Italian cities: Florence, Lucca, San Gimignano or Vinci – names that are music to the ears. Use your time in these historic cities for strolling, shopping or culture spotting.
  • 4-star Grand Hotel Croce di Malta: In Montecatini your holiday accommodation is just a few steps away from the spa and village centre. The dreamlike pool is just perfect for a cooling dip after a long bike ride.
  • Welcome shortcuts by train and bus: Trips to further away cities such as Florence, Lucca and Monte Pisani are easily shortened by bus and train. Of course the Eurobike team also organises this for you!

For casual cyclists who like to cycle in their spare time, the Tuscany tour is perfect! Everyday you spend between 40 and 55 kilometres cycling on secondary roads and country lanes. Some basic fitness is needed, because although the landscape is stunning, it is also hilly. Longer distances, such as the return trip from Lucca or Vinci, are made by bus and train. Thanks to Eurobike’s extensive travel material, you’ll know what to expect every day before you leave.

Itinerary at a glance

Experience Tuscany with all your senses - your base is in Montecatini with the Hotel Croce di Malta. The Val die Nievole offers unique views of the region and from Monte Pisano, you look out over the vastness of the sea.

In the evening, you’ll receive your tour details and collect your bike. A gentle walk through the park or a ride on the historic funicular up to Montecatini Alto offers a delightful start. Begin your cycling holiday by savoring delicious food, fine wines, and the unique charm of your hotel.

You’ll cycle along picturesque routes winding through olive groves to the charming village of Serravalle. Gentle climbs reward you with stunning views over the valley followed by a delightful descent back to Montecatini. Along the way, you’ll also pass through the historic town of Montecatini Alto where you can treat yourself to a glass of wine on the romantic Piazza Giusti.

A transfer takes you to the summit of Monte Pisano (900 m / 2,950 ft), where breathtaking views of Pisa and the sea unfold before you. From there, enjoy a thrilling descent into the valley. Cycling alongside a historic Roman aqueduct is an experience in itself—but nothing compares to your arrival at the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. The route then leads you to the Mediterranean coast and through the scenic Macchia Lucchese Nature Park, ending in the elegant seaside town of Viareggio—the “pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea.” You'll return comfortably by train.

Tuscany’s capital captivates with its grand palaces, historic churches, world-class museums, and a wealth of Renaissance masterpieces. Today, your bike takes a well-deserved rest as you head to Florence by train. Or, if you prefer to unwind, you can spend the day soaking up the comforts and amenities of your hotel instead.

Your day begins with a transfer to Casciana Terme. From there, you’ll pedal through vineyards and gently rolling hills on picturesque routes leading to the town of San Gimignano. Along the way, soak up the sweeping views of Tuscany’s timeless countryside, just as they were captured by the great masters. San Gimignano welcomes you with its iconic skyline of medieval towers before a comfortable transfer brings you back to your hotel.

Cycle along natural trails through fragrant olive groves from Montecatini to Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The museum honoring this Renaissance genius, with its remarkable collection of inventions, is a true highlight. On your return journey to the hotel, you’ll glide past rolling hills and the picturesque scenery of the Montalbano countryside

The final stage leads you to the medieval wine town of Montecarlo, one of the rare places in Tuscany where white wine flourishes. Following the scenic Colline Lucchesi wine route, you’ll pass the elegant Villa Torriggiani before arriving at your last destination, Lucca. A ride along Lucca’s historic city walls rewards you with breathtaking views of churches and towers rising above the rooftops. Your day ends with a relaxing train journey back to your hotel.

Tuscany is a stunning region, but also a hilly one. After conquering the climbs, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramas. You’ll pedal through cypress-lined avenues, vineyards, charming villages, and all the way to the Mediterranean coast—there’s never a dull moment on this journey. The route mostly winds along peaceful back roads, with occasional stretches on rustic country paths. Near larger towns, brief sections with heavier traffic are to be expected.
