Explore Trier and charming wine villages like Traben-Trarbach, with plenty of enjoyable activities along the way—refreshing lakes for a swim, ice cream for the kids, and wine tastings for the parents. An exciting adventure for both young and old awaits right at the start of your journey, as you explore and discover the city of Trier through a treasure hunt. The next morning, you’ll hop on your bike and cycle along the Moselle to Mehring. Near Riol, you can take a refreshing dip in the lakes and enjoy an ice cream by the pier. From Mehring, the route continues to Piesport, where you'll learn about regional grape varieties along the wine trail in Trittenheim, and in Neumagen-Dhron, you’ll have the chance to taste the wines.

Your next destination on the Moselle cycle path is Bernkastel-Kues – a charming town known for its traditional half-timbered houses. The final stage takes you through the vineyards of "Kröver Nacktarsch" to Traben-Trarbach. You’ll end an eventful family holiday with a round of mini golf, creating lasting memories together.

  • Wine tasting and a boat tour in Bernkastel-Kues: Picturesquely situated along the banks of the Moselle, the historic town center enchants with its cobblestone streets and well-preserved half-timbered houses. The town is renowned for its exceptional Riesling wines, grown in the surrounding vineyards. A highlight is the medieval marketplace, featuring the beautiful Spitzhäuschen and the Renaissance-style town hall. After your stage, a relaxing boat ride awaits you here.
  • Experience Trier in a playful way: A city tour can be a little boring for kids but with our city tour, learning about the sights is turned into an exciting treasure hunt. Exploring the Trier Cathedral, the Constantine Basilica, the Imperial Baths, and many other landmarks becomes a fun adventure for the whole family.
  • Water fun along the Moselle: Variety comes in the form of numerous swimming opportunities. While the kids splash around in the cool water, the adults can relax and enjoy a coffee. You'll pass several outdoor pools along the way, with the lakes near Riol being particularly lovely. At Triolago Lake, you can rent a pedal boat together or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding.

The well-maintained Moselle cycle path offers stunning views and attractions for all ages – and it’s wonderfully flat. The 20 to 30-kilometer stages are perfect for even the youngest cycling enthusiasts. There’s plenty of energy left for the included activities, such as a round of mini golf, a ride on the summer toboggan, and a boat tour.

Itinerary at a glance

During the day, exciting adventures await along the Moselle, and in the evenings, you'll taste the famous wines. Explore Trier playfully with a treasure hunt, jump into the swimming lakes near Mehring, or take a thrilling ride on the summer toboggan run.

Arrival at Trier and check-in at your accommodation. Travel documentation and rental bikes (if booked) are ready for you in the hotel. Treves is a town teeming with historic, Roman buildings and architecture. Whether it is the town’s landmark, Porta Nigra’ or the amphitheatre – it is definitely always worth a visit. Alternatively you can check out the toy museum and take part in the cool museum puzzlehunt.

You start your cycle tour along the beautiful Moselle, which leads you via Pfalzel and Schweich to Mehring. A small leisure complex awaits you in Riol. The bathing lakes provide refreshment and a ride on the summer toboggan run is an exciting family adventure. In Mehring, you can still visit the remains and reconstructions of the Roman Villa Rustica at your leisure.

In Trittenheim, an educational wine trail provides information about local grape varieties. Neumagen-Dhron is considered the oldest wine village in Germany and in Piesport you can visit a Roman wine press from the 3rd century.

Today you cycle to Bernkastel-Kues, where the many small streets and the colourful half-timbered buildings are impressive. In the evening we have included a short boat tour for the family. For parents we recommend a sample of the well-known “Bernkastler Doctor. ”

Numerous vineyards accompany you on your bike tour today. Through the wine-growing area “Kröver Nacktarsch” you reach your day’s destination with Traben-Trarbach. On the way, many leisure pools invite you to relax. Traben-Trarbach offers some architectural masterpieces of Art Nouveau and Belle Epoque. We have included a short round of miniature golf for your family.

Today it is time to say goodbye to the vineyards, castles and ruins. You have all the options for an individual departure. Or would you prefer to spend another day on the Moselle River for more adventures?

Mainly the Moselle Cycle Path leads on paved and asphalted roads and cycle paths. The route is signposted throughout and is excellent. For this variant, we have also chosen very short stages that are suitable for children. This tour is therefore perfect for families with children.

Child prices valid if they are staying in same room as 2 full price adults. Charges for children under 6 (for example Child bed) to be paid for at the time.
