The Flower Island Mainau

Lake Constance is Germany's largest inland body of water and a paradise for cyclists. It is located at the tri-border region of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. On excellent cycling paths, you can combine nature relaxation with historical sightseeing. Enjoy the views of the lake and the Alps! You'll pass by idyllic vineyards and romantic fields of flowers. How about a picnic before exploring baroque buildings and interesting museums? Additionally, you'll get to know charming fishing villages and diverse cities. From the Bregenz Lakeside Stage, Sea Life in Konstanz, to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen, there's a suitable destination for everyone. Nature enthusiasts will delight in a side trip to the Flower Island of Mainau and a ride through the orchards in the canton of Thurgau, known as "Mostindien."

Embarking from Konstanz, your cycling adventure unfolds with visits to Gailingen and Stein am Rhein. For those on Category A of the cycling tour, the journey proceeds to Wangen. Afterward, you'll enjoy a direct path leading you to Überlingen (A), or you can opt for the scenic route via Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen to reach Überlingen (B). Your next destinations include Lindau (A) or the picturesque stops of Kressbronn and Nonnenhorn (B). Following an exploration of the lively festival city of Bregenz, Category A continues its path to Arbon, while Category B ventures towards Höchst and Rorschach. Ultimately, your adventure concludes as you make your way back to Konstanz.

  • Höri Peninsula: This picturesque peninsula was the home of the painter Otto Dix and the writer Hermann Hesse. It may be just 45 square kilometers in size, but it's a true paradise.
  • Friedrichshafen: Here, technology and history enthusiasts will find their interests well-served. You should visit the Zeppelin Museum, where a partial reconstruction of the famous Zeppelin Hindenburg is on display.
  • Bregenz: The capital of Vorarlberg is known for having the world's largest floating stage, where the Bregenz Festival takes place.
  • Konstanz: During a leisurely stroll, you can explore the harbor and the old town. Furthermore, this picturesque town is an ideal starting point for a short detour to the flower island of Mainau.

Following some hilly sections, the route becomes mostly flat and paved, running alongside Lake Constance. It's accessible, with only minor unpaved portions and a brief main road stretch near Friedrichshafen. This moderately challenging tour is suitable for families.
