A brief getaway

5 Days / 4 Nights

City view of Marburg

The Lahn-Cycle Path extends approximately 250 kilometers from its source to where it meets the Rhine at Lahnstein. On your brief getaway, you'll cover around two-thirds of this distance, starting from Marburg and ending in Bad Ems. Historic cities intersperse with stunning landscapes along the way. Culture merges with culinary delights, with lively student pubs coexisting alongside precious landmarks and top-notch wines complementing local specialties. On two wheels, time will fly by - savor this five-day escape from everyday life!

Your short break begins in Marburg, where the vibrant atmosphere of a university town intertwines with the charm of approximately 800 years of city history. The route winds through the Lahn Valley to Wetzlar, where you'll be captivated by the picturesque timber-framed houses in the old town. The following day, you'll depart from Wetzlar via the stone bridge and pedal towards Limburg.

Making a detour to the Fortuna Mine is worthwhile, offering insights into open-cast mining and the coal industry. The second leg of your journey leads to Weilburg, showcasing its splendid Renaissance castle. Don't miss out on the magnificent views of the Taunus! The last few kilometers are particularly scenic, passing through Balduinstein and Arnstein Monastery before reaching Bad Ems.

  • History meets student flair in Marburg: Enjoy the charming old town with its winding alleyways and half-timbered houses, but also pay a visit to the university during your exploration tour. From the Landgrave's Castle, you can relish a splendid view over the city and the surrounding countryside.
  • The picturesque Lahn Valley reveals a fascinating variety of nature and culture. Discover the idyllic landscape along the river, adorned with historic castles and fortresses. The tranquil atmosphere beckons you to relax and unwind.
  • The majestic Limburg Cathedral stands as a remarkable specimen of medieval ecclesiastical architecture and serves as the city's landmark. Featuring a striking double-tower façade and intricate Gothic elements, it is truly impressive. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the cathedral's interior, where you can admire the famous ribbed vault and Gothic windows.

Three stages ranging from 50 to 65 kilometers in length combine activity with pleasure. The route is mostly manageable, with some climbs requiring a bit of stamina but offering wonderful panoramic views. The climbs before Bad Ems can also be bypassed by train if desired.

Simply leave everyday life behind and escape the ordinary for a few days - treat yourself to a short vacation with Eurobike. We take care of the organization; all you have to do is arrive and enjoy!

Itinerary at a glance

Short and sweet – over five days, you'll pass along the Lahn River through the university town of Marburg and the half-timbered city of Wetzlar. In Limburg, you'll be delighted by the cathedral and the protected historic old town, while Weilburg offers a Renaissance castle.

Visit the historic old town and Elisabeth church. Your rental bicycle is ready for you at the hotel.

You cycle in wide Lahn valley past idyllic little bathing ponds to Wetzlar. Explore the old town and interesting dome.

Cross the stony bridge to leave Wetzlar and soon you reach the old mine Fortuna (+8 km), Germany’s only iron-ore show mine, operating the original underground machinery. Take in the beautiful surroundings to Weilburg, where the renaissance castle stands in solitary splendour on a high rock above river Lahn. Wedged in between the heights of Taunis and Westerwald the river winds its way. You cycle on the asphalted Lein path via Aumenau and Runkel to Limburg with famous dome.

Today you cross the pristine valley from Diez to Balduinstein, one of the most scenic parts of the tour. Two climbs can be avoided by using the train (11 km). Have a break at monastery Arnstein, at fortress Nassau or in historic Inn on Lahn before you reach Bad Ems.
