8 Days / 7 Nights
Easy
The MS Olympia on the Rhine

This cycling and boat vacation is ideal for those who appreciate a fairytale setting. The route takes you through famous wine-producing towns and historical landmarks from the Roman era. A fantastic change from cycling is the daily accommodation on the MS Olympia. The Moselle and Saar rivers showcase their most beautiful scenery. On the banks, you'll find tranquil spots with breathtaking views, inviting you to relax and enjoy a picnic. Experience vibrant activity in the small villages, where you can leisurely stroll and shop to your heart's content. How about a Moselle souvenir for your family and friends? End the day with a glass of wine and savor the culinary delights of the region!

Following the initial night aboard the MS Olympia, your cycling adventure commences from Saarburg to the Luxembourg town of Wasserbillig, and subsequently to Trier, where the ship is ready to welcome you once more. The cycling route then takes you to the significant wine-producing town of Mehring before progressing to Piesport and Bernkastel-Kues on the following day. Further points of interest include Traben-Trarbach and Zell along the Moselle. Subsequently, you have the opportunity to explore Beilstein and Cochem before completing the tour through Alken and concluding in Coblenz.

  • Saarburg: Those who appreciate narrow alleyways with quaint half-timbered houses will love Saarburg. Magnificent Baroque buildings are combined with colorful fisherman's and boatmen's houses. The nostalgic rows of houses and stream bridges on Buttermarkt are affectionately referred to as "Little Venice."
  • Trier: One attraction in Trier is the gigantic city gate Porta Nigra, whose foundation was laid by the Romans in 170 AD. It has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986 and is exceptionally well-preserved.
  • Piesport: In the picturesque town of Piesport, you'll find the largest Roman wine press facility ever discovered north of the Alps.
  • Cochem: This quaint town is renowned for its ornate half-timbered houses and its impressive Reichsburg (Imperial Castle). The castle, a hilltop fortress that served as a toll castle in the Middle Ages, adds to the charm. In this atmosphere, you can enjoy a wonderful Moselle wine.

The cycling paths on this route boast excellent quality. Along the Moselle, there are predominantly paved and asphalted roads with no significant inclines. Therefore, this journey is suitable for both avid cyclists and inexperienced hobby cyclists. It invites you to enjoy a relaxing ride in an idyllic landscape.
