After 2,000 kilometers of climbing, it’s finally time to descend toward the blue sea, following scenic coastal roads. Could this be the final stretch to La Spezia?
The stunning coastal views pull us closer to our destination, their beauty fueling our tired legs with renewed energy. As we ride, the colorful houses of Lerici catch my eye, and inspiration strikes—I suggest a quick coffee break before we continue to La Spezia.
Thirty minutes later, we’re sitting in a charming café, savoring a much-needed pause on our self-guided cycling adventure. “Due espressi, per favore,” we say, ready to soak in the moment.
Nearby, Italian children splash joyfully in the shimmering sea, their carefree laughter filling the air. But suddenly, the scene shifts.
With surprising urgency, the children rush out of the water, drying off and getting dressed. Moments earlier, a woman had called “Pranzo!” from the balcony of a soft orange-pastel house. Instantly, everyone springs into action. It’s no mystery—this is Italy, and that single magical word can mean only one thing: lunchtime!
