The landscape along the Kattegattleden is wonderfully diverse. As you cycle, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Kattegat, with its small islands and coves. Your journey begins in the Skåne region, with particularly picturesque sections on the Kullahalvön Peninsula and between Höganäs and Jonstorp. Along the way, you’ll pass beautiful sandy beaches and charming harbors. Each stop is more scenic than the last, with plenty of opportunities to relax and take a break. The Kullabygden area is a food lover's paradise, home to various cafés, restaurants, farm shops, and even wineries!
The Kullaberg Nature Reserve, located north of the seaside village of Mölle on the Kulla Peninsula, is a must-see. With steep cliffs and rugged rock outcrops, it offers spectacular views of the sea, along with a unique flora and fauna.
Another highlight is the charming fishing village of Båstad, renowned for its beautiful beaches and picturesque old town. Here, you can relax in one of the cozy cafés and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze.
Next, you’ll travel through Halland, a region along the long coastline that hugs five idyllic towns. You’ll experience a diverse coastal landscape, with bays, sandy beaches, meadows, and fishing villages. In Halmstad, the regional capital, you’ll pass by one of Sweden’s most famous sandy beaches, Tylösand. Along the route, there are many great spots for swimming—just park your bike and take a refreshing dip!
Falkenberg is another charming stop on your journey. In the old town, time seems to stand still, with well-preserved wooden houses around St. Laurentii Church, offering glimpses of a bygone era. Falkenberg is also known for its culinary delights, including the traditional art of salmon smoking. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a 'Swedish Fika' at one of the local cafés or bakeries.
Along the way, you’ll encounter landmarks like the medieval fortress of Varberg, beautifully situated by the harbor, directly across from the famous cold bathhouse. This and many other spots along the route offer perfect opportunities to take a break and enjoy regional delicacies. In the fishing harbors of Träslövsläge and Bua, you’ll find fresh seafood, including crabs and freshly caught fish.
Further north in Halland, a detour to Tjolöholm Castle by the Kungsbacka Fjord is highly recommended. The castle, built in the Arts & Crafts style, is impressive, and its parkland and lovingly restored staff village are worth exploring.
At the end of the route, in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city, you’ll find a wide range of cultural experiences, from museums and theater performances to excellent restaurants serving local specialties. Situated along the Göta älv river, the city offers a unique atmosphere perfect for concluding your cycling adventure along the Kattegattleden.
