Two cyclists on a bike tour near Rivaz, with panoramic views of vineyards, Lake Geneva and the mountains

Clear, blue water laps against the bow of the boat taking you to Évian-les-Bains on the southern side of Lake Geneva. A fairytale atmosphere then awaits you on the trip to Yvoire. Fancy a dip in the cool water? Or perhaps a glass of wine in one of the many lakeside restaurants? In Haute-Savoie, French joie de vivre awaits you at every turn.

The diplomatic hotspot of Geneva, on the other hand, provides quite a sharp contrast and there’ll be plenty of time to explore this fascinating metropolis before you continue your journey. Well-preserved castles and elegant market towns await you on the north shore of the lake. As you ride through the Lavaux vineyards, the steel-blue water, lush green vines and snowy white peaks unfold wonderfully before you. There’s nowhere in Switzerland more beautiful than Lake Geneva.

Look forward to stunning views from the shores of Lake Geneva as you begin your cycling journey in Lausanne. Enjoy a refreshing swim and enjoy the mountain scenery across the lake before hopping on a boat for a scenic ride across the water. On Day 3, you'll cross the Swiss border again on your way to the cosmopolitan city of Geneva, with an overnight stay in the medieval town of Yvoire in France.

After an immersive city tour, you'll reach the Jura Mountains, which you admired from afar at the start of your journey. The castles of Nyon and Prangins invite you to step into the past, followed by a ride through picturesque vineyards. After an overnight stay in the Olympic city of Lausanne, you'll pass through the Lavaux wine region on your way to your destination.

  • Between history and diplomacy in Switzerland: Begin your stay in Switzerland's second-largest city with a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade, where you'll be treated to stunning views of the distant Alps and the iconic Jet d'Eau fountain. Geneva rose to global prominence as the headquarters for organizations like the United Nations. Explore the historic old town and take time to relax at its charming cafés and restaurants.
  • The terraced vineyards of Lavaux: Enjoy cycling through the stunning landscape of terraced vineyards, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Along the way, you'll find wine cellars and local taverns inviting you to taste the renowned Chasselas wine.
  • Experience the Olympic spirit in Lausanne: A charming city on the shores of Lake Geneva, Lausanne is home to the impressive Notre-Dame Cathedral, which invites both contemplation and exploration. There are many fascinating museums to discover, with the most famous being the Olympic Museum – after all, Lausanne is the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.

This seven-day cycling tour takes you along stunning paths to exciting cities and charming spots. From Lausanne, you'll enjoy a boat ride across the lake. The stages range from 30 to 45 kilometers, with the lakeside paths being mostly flat. As you reach the Jura Mountains, the routes become a bit steeper, and you'll need to conquer a vineyard or two – but at the end, you'll have the chance to taste some fine local wines.

The Alpine countries are all exceptional cycling destinations – on our site, you'll find tours for cyclists of all levels. Along with cycling vacations in Switzerland, you can also explore Austria, Germany, and Italy by bike.

Arrival at Lausanne

On a boat trip to Évian-les-Bains, the change of perspective the section on the French side of Lake Geneva brings with it are quite striking – now the hills of the Jura chain salute you from the other side of the lake. There are countless opportunities for swimming on the banks of the lake in Haute-Savoie, too. The destination of today’s ride is the medieval town of Yvoire.

Picturesque harbours and charming villages await you as you ride back towards the Swiss border. You’ll pass the village of Hermance shortly after entering Switzerland. Then, it’s in Cologny where you’ll catch your first glimpses of the Jet d’Eau, Geneva’s famous landmark.

As you ride along the Jura mountain range, high above the shores of Lake Geneva, you soon leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind you. The side roads you’ll be riding on are hardly used and magnificent views of the lake and the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif will open up before you. You’ll spend the night either in Nyon or in the neighbouring village of Prangins. In both stage towns, you’ll find stunning Swiss Châteaux that are well worth a visit.

You’ll be staying on the shores of Lake Geneva today, with stately homes and well-tended beaches to look forward to. After lunch, the route climbs gently and leads into the vineyards. Shortly after you pass the market town of Morges is when you’ll reach Lausanne promenade. The city is the seat of the Olympic Committee and has a large number of well-developed sports facilities, as well as a museum on Olympic history that’s well worth a visit.

A special treat awaits you at the end of the tour. Traditional dry stone walls, countless wine cellars and fantastic views make the ride through the Lavaux vineyards one of the most beautiful cycling tours to be experienced in Switzerland. The tour then continues along the shores of Lake Geneva, via Vevey, to Montreux. If you wish, you can extend the tour all the way to Château de Chillon.
