With a view of the Mediterranean, you conclude the stage, reaching the fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, where an evening awaits you with a well-deserved seafood platter paired with a regional wine!

Day 4 guides you through cultural landmarks like the Empúries ruins and exceptional natural scenery such as the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà marshlands. Exploring the Empordà wine region, you'll be treated to magnificent views of the Pyrenees. The last leg of your journey takes you through medieval towns and Catalan villages, concluding in Figueres. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum before embarking on your homeward journey, cherishing a trove of memories.

The historic Jewish quarter, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages, is another notable highlight to discover.
  • The Empordà wine region: The cycle paths in the last two stages are adorned with ancient vineyards and charming wineries. The heritage of crafting top-notch wines holds a longstanding tradition here, reaching far into the past. Indulge in the rich palette of full-bodied red wines, whether it's a Tempranillo, a Carignan, or a Garnacha.
  • Fine sandy beaches and a warm sea breeze: Embrace the essence of your active journey with the beach and the sea and allow your soul to relax as you feel the soft sand beneath your feet. Whether you find yourself at Sant Pol Beach, the bay surrounding the picturesque town of Roses, or at Platja de Castell.

Catalonia's cycle paths captivate with stunning panoramas and a predominantly flat route. The trail is suitable for all fitness levels, given the limited distance covered. With a daily range of 30 to 45 kilometers, you'll have ample time to explore the countryside and connect with the locals.

Itinerary at a glance

Catalonia delights with the world-famous Empordà wine-growing region and beautiful sandy beaches on the Costa Brava. Unwind and enjoy the delicious Spanish cuisine with a glass of wine.

Girona is famous for one of the best-preserved Jewish old towns and the cathedral, which boasts one of the largest stone vaults of Gothic architecture. A walk along the city walls or the river Onyar, which offers a picturesque view of the famous colorful houses, is highly recommended.

You leave the city on a cycle path heading south, which leads directly to the Mediterranean. This section follows the so-called greenway, "El Carrilet", and passes through the towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d'Aro, always with the Gavarres massif in the background. It is a mountainous forest area, mainly made up of oak trees, which are important for cork production. Once you arrive in San Feliu de Guíxols, you will be delighted by the beautiful beach of Sant Pol.

Today you drive north along a coastal road and past various beach promenades to the port town of Palamós. After a few kilometers, you will pass the unspoiled bay of Platja de Castell, with an Iberian settlement on the left. This is a lovely place to have a picnic and swim in the Mediterranean. Later you reach the picturesque old fishing village of Calella de Palafurgell, one of the pearls of the Costa Brava. For the last few kilometers, you cycle along the greenway, the "Ruta del Tren Petit".

We continue north, inland, through Palafrugell, with its fish, meat and vegetable market. A great place to learn about the products of this region. You can also visit the cork museum. After leaving Palafrugell, you will reach the medieval village of Pals, one of the best-preserved medieval centers. The ride takes you through natural wetlands with extensive rice fields and long sandy beaches. The cycle tour ends in Torroella de Montgrí at the foot of the Montgri Massif castle.

The route leads past the Montgrí massif into the district of Alt Empordà. You reach the long bay of Roses with its fine sandy beaches. In addition to the pretty medieval settlement of Sant Martí de Empúries, you should take the time to visit the archaeological settlement of Empúries with its Greek and Roman ruins. The cycle route continues north, where you cross the protected marshland of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà and end your day's stage in the village of Castelló d'Empúries, which has a rich architectural heritage. Take your time to explore the Gothic church, the count's palace, the old market building and the Jewish quarter.

Today's excursion offers fantastic views of the Pyrenees as you cycle through the 100-year-old vineyards. The ride through the famous Empordà wine regions will impress you. Plan a short stop at the wineries, which are mainly located in the towns of Vilajuïga and Pau.

The last stage of the day takes you first to Peralada, where you can visit the castle and the medieval town. From there you cycle through the upper part of the wine-growing region, past Garriguella, Vilamaniscle and Rabos with the oldest groves. Don't miss a visit to the modernist winery of the Espolla cooperative. From there, the tour takes you on a long descent to your destination, the town of Figueres. After arriving in Figueres, you can visit the world-famous Dalí Theater-Museum, which is still one of the most visited sights in Spain.
