View of Siracusa

Sicily is unmissable - especially on a tour by bicycle! In the eastern part of the island, you'll encounter stunning coastal stretches, secluded sandy beaches, captivating nature reserves, and awe-inspiring cities. After an earthquake devastated many towns in 1693, they were predominantly rebuilt in the Baroque style. Whether you're in Noto or Palazzolo Acreide, the architecture is grandiose in many places. You'll also find picturesque fishing villages like Marzamemi and the ancient city of Syracuse. But one thing you shouldn’t miss out on is the exquisite Sicilian cuisine and warm hospitality!

Experience the serene charm of Palazzolo Acreide and immerse yourself in the laid-back southern Italian lifestyle. Begin your journey by exploring two baroque treasures, Ragusa Ibla and Modica. The second leg of the tour guides you through secluded gorges to Scicli and onward to the coastline, where you can unwind on the pristine white beaches of picturesque Pozzallo.

Day 5 offers a wealth of sights to behold, whether exploring the Longarini and Cuba marshes, renowned migratory bird sanctuaries, or the captivating coastline. A highlight is the breathtaking viewpoint at Isola delle Correnti, followed by an evening spent in the charming fishing village of Marzamemi. On the subsequent day, during the shorter leg of the journey, consider taking an extended break on the beach near the Vendicari nature reserve. After a delightful overnight stay in the enchanting town of Noto, you'll pedal your way to the final destination of Syracuse. For a more leisurely ride, stick to the coastal route, or opt for a more challenging journey through the hilly hinterlands.

  • A journey to ancient Greece: Syracuse is a mesmerizing city steeped in history and adorned with remarkable architecture. The enchanting old town of Ortigia beckons visitors with its labyrinthine alleyways, stunning baroque buildings, and the shimmering sea. From ancient ruins like the Greek theater to charming squares and panoramic vistas, Syracuse stands as a true Sicilian gem.
  • Baroque splendor in Noto: The baroque architecture, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is truly remarkable. From the splendid churches to the elegant palaces and picturesque squares, such as Noto Cathedral and Palazzo Ducezio, Syracuse exudes a distinctive and captivating charm.
  • Bathing fun and birdwatching on the coast: Sicily hosts numerous bird sanctuaries, crucial habitats for migratory birds, waders, and other avian species. Among these are the Vendicari Nature Park on the southeastern coast and the marshlands near Pozzallo. While these sites are a haven for ornithologists, Sicily's coastlines also beckon water enthusiasts with their stunning beaches and picturesque bays.

Whether along the coastline or inland, Sicily's landscape offers breathtaking vistas. With a moderate level of fitness, you can conquer the hilly terrain and enjoy stunning panoramas as your reward. Throughout your journey, our team is available via our service hotline for any assistance you may need. Plus, with luggage transfer included in the tour package, you can travel light and leave your belongings behind, ensuring a hassle-free experience from accommodation to accommodation.

Day
01
Arrival in Palazzolo Acreide

After visiting the historical Old Town of Palazzolo Acreide, you will cycle through the beautiful territory of the Monti Iblei, a unique landscape, where rugged and wild areas alternate with pleasant green scenery, characterized by the typical stonewalls. On your way to Modica there is a short climb of 3 km.

Before you leave Modica you should taste the famous chocolate, e.g. spiced with hot chili peppers. Cruising downhill through a beautiful Iblei canyon, you will arrive at Scicli, well worth a stroll through the small alleys, before you continue down to the coast to Pozzallo.

This day the road will be completely flat. You will pass through some typical wetlands, the "Patano Longarini" and "Patano Cuba", a popular stopover amongst the migratory birds on their trips between Africa and Europe. Cycling along the shore you will reach the southernmost point of Sicily, the island "Isola delle Correnti", which lies on the same latitude as Tunis and marks the watershed between the Ionian and the Mediterranean Sea. Continuing through Portopalo di Capo Passero and Marzamemi, an ancient fishing village, you will finish your ride in San Lorenzo.

On a flat road heading north along the coast, you will reach the entrance to the natural preserve and wildlife sanctuary "Oasi di Vendicari", a wonderful and uncontaminated coast full of interesting plants and rare birds. After this you will continue to the most famous baroque town, Noto.

The flat stage will lead you up north along the coast ending in Syrakus, metropolis in ancient Greece. Here you can visit the excavation site “Parco Archeologico Neapolis” and the old town of Ortigia (UNESCO World Heritage). Longer option possible more difficult option possible through the hinterlands with view point and beautiful descent.

End of tour and individual departure or extension with additional days. Possibility to make an individual city tour through Siracusa or the the nature reserve “Valle dell’Anapo” (Gorges of Pantalica, the biggest antique necropolis with over 5000 cave excavations).
