Windmills on the river

The province of Zeeland comprises the coast, peninsulas, and islands, and Eurobike has crafted a seven-day cycling tour dedicated to exploring it. Beginning in Rotterdam, you can observe large ships setting sail for the open seas from the port. Along the way, you'll encounter windmills and dams, characteristic features of the country that add to its allure. This wonderful tour focuses on the sea, with its beautiful sandy beaches and stunning views taking center stage. Conclude your sunny days with a plate of seafood to round off the experience!

A vacation by the sea doesn't always have to take place in the south - the coasts of the Baltic and North Seas have their own unique charm. Enjoy the maritime atmosphere with a cycling holiday in Holland or explore Denmark by bike.

Beginning in Rotterdam, you embark from a trendy metropolis where restaurants and bars line the streets. As you journey towards Willemstad, the urban landscape gradually transitions into rural scenery, allowing you to leave the hustle and bustle of daily life behind with every breath. After exploring Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland, your cycling route leads you towards the coast, arriving in Zierikzee the following day.

Island by island, you'll acquaint yourself with Zeeland, with two charming towns, Vlissingen and Middelburg, awaiting your visit. On day 5, you'll first pass through the Kop van Schouwen nature reserve before encountering the imposing Delta Works, serving as a storm surge barrier. The final stage brings you back to Rotterdam, but before that, you can savor the beauty of the islands of Goeree-Overflakkee and Voorne-Putten.

  • The windmills of Kinderdijk: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its 19 charming mills along the canals, bears witness to a masterful blend of technology and tradition. These idyllic landmarks are not just a visual highlight but also tell captivating stories about the Dutch struggle against floods.
  • Modern Rotterdam: Start your tour by admiring architectural masterpieces such as the Willemswerf and the KPN Tower. The best way to admire the impressive skyline is from a boat - and you can also visit Europe's largest port at the same time.
  • Idyllic Zeeland: The province in the southwest of the Netherlands enchants with endless beaches, historic towns (such as Middelburg) and picturesque villages (e.g. Veere). The Delta Works are technical masterpieces against flooding. The province attracts visitors with water sports, mussels and the charming Zeeland Museum, which presents the regional history in a lively way.

The route from Rotterdam is suitable for cyclists of all levels thanks to the flat terrain. After five daily stages, you will have completed around 300 kilometers of cycling. Throughout, you'll enjoy freedom and ease - after all, our team transports your luggage daily to the various accommodations.

Itinerary at a glance

In Zeeland, culture and nature come together to form an interesting mix. The old Dutch towns will inspire you culturally and nature lovers will find peace and quiet in the extensive nature reserves.

The international port and modern architecture are well-known symbols of the Dutch metropolis. But Rotterdam has much more to offer: The city is considered one of the liveliest in the Netherlands. Hip restaurants and cool cafés offer all kinds of tasty treats. And you won't be disappointed when it comes to art and culture either. One thing is certain: you will never be bored in Rotterdam.

The first highlight of your cycle tour awaits you in Kinderdijk. The 19 impressive windmills were built as early as 1740 and are considered a symbol of Dutch water management. The backdrop takes you back to times long past. You pass through Holland's oldest city, Dordrecht. There are more than 1,000 monuments to marvel at. And numerous cafés invite you to linger in the winding alleyways. You have reached your destination for today with the fortified city of Willemstad.

You leave Willemstad and first reach the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. A true paradise for nature lovers: Extensive polders and nature reserves alternate with small villages with Dutch flair. Continue to the island of Schouwen-Duiveland, known for its beautiful beaches. You will find plenty of small boutiques in the harbor town of Zierikzee. The sunset is particularly beautiful during an evening stroll along the beach promenade.

The Zeeland Bridge is around 5 km long and takes you from Zierikzee to Noord-Beveland. The island lies between the Oosterschelde and the Veerse Meer. On the Walcheren peninsula, Fort Rammekens is well worth a visit. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the Westerschelde during a free tour. Afterwards, take a stroll along the longest promenade in the Netherlands: the cool harbor town of Vlissingen is a great place to relax. Today's destination is Middelburg, the capital of the Dutch province of Zeeland. There are plenty of sights to discover in the winding alleyways.

Your cycling stage takes you north across the island. The landscape alternates between forests, old villages and small towns. In the Kop van Schouwen nature reserve, you can completely forget about everyday life. Again and again, wide, golden sandy beaches invite you to take a dip in the cool water. The Delta Works are an absolute highlight. The largest storm surge barrier in the world is made up of a total of 13 structures. An imposing construction of dams, dykes and locks. You will spend the night in the tranquil seaside resort of Ouddorp. The beach is also just around the corner.

You leave the island of Goeree-Overflakkee and cycle to the island of Vorne-Putten. The Harlingvlietdam is the sixth structure of the Delta Works and guides you with fantastic views over the sea. You then pass the medieval town of Brielle and the maritime Maassluis. There are plenty of listed buildings to discover in the historic town center. Via Vlaardingen and Schiedam, you finally reach Rotterdam, the starting point of your cycle tour. With lots of great impressions in your luggage, you can round off the evening in one of the many restaurants.

Individual journey home after breakfast. There is something going on around the clock in the Dutch port metropolis. We are happy to book an extra stay to explore the city.
