Where half-timber is more than architecture
Cycle tour along the Fulda and Werra rivers through historic German towns. Route features over 700 half-timbered houses in Hann. Münden, Kassel's Hercules statue and museums, Melsungen's Landgrave Castle, and Rotenburg's medieval fortifications. Medium difficulty with mostly traffic-free paths and minor elevation changes, except 200m between Bebra and Sontra. Daily distances average 30-40 km. Accommodation in 3-star hotels with breakfast, luggage transfer, and GPS navigation included.
The nature seems untouched and wild here. Impressive castles, the low mountain range and beautiful valleys are awaiting you. Timbered houses are inviting you in stylish atmosphere and old cities as for example 1000-year-old Eschwege are telling stories of former history. Others bring fairy tales to life and give art plenty of space, such as the Documenta city of Kassel. And everywhere you go, you can sense that this region tells a story—quietly, charmingly, and full of character. A round trip that is still considered a real insider tip—for anyone looking for something authentic and special.
You cycle on roads with low traffic or asphalted bike paths and side roads. There is an altitude difference of 200 m (possibility to go by train, not included) between Rothenburg and Eschwege, otherwise there are just little altitude differences.
