The market place in Weimar

Goethe once expressed that he could only envision residing in three cities: Weimar, Rome, and Carlsbad. This profound declaration of love is truly deserved. Weimar, with its enchanting beauty, provides a perfect backdrop for a cycling vacation. Indulge in Thuringian cuisine and immerse yourself in the rich history and present-day allure of the city. Savor the classics with a glass of wine, whether it be the masterpieces of Goethe, Schiller, or Bach.

Our tours, based in one hotel, offer the added comfort of returning to your accommodation each day. During this four-day short break, you will embark on two wonderful excursions. On the days of arrival and departure, you can enjoy the enchanting atmosphere of the historic city.

Your first loop tour leads you along the Thuringian chain of towns to Erfurt. St. Mary's Cathedral, the half-timbered houses, and the Merchants' Bridge (Krämerbrücke) are all impressive sights to behold. On your way back, make a pit stop at a traditional restaurant - you've definitely earned a hearty meal. The following day, you'll cycle through the picturesque Ilm Valley. The ride through this romantic countryside is truly relaxing, and a visit to the Thuringian Open-Air Museum adds an interesting touch to your journey. Along the route, you'll pass through Bad Berka, Kranichfeld, and Hohenfelden.

  • Cycling off the beaten track: In addition to the well-known attractions, Weimar offers some hidden gems waiting to be discovered. These include the Nietzsche Archive, the Poet and Thinker's House, the Schiller Museum, and the historic park along the Ilm River. A visit to Ackerwand is also worthwhile, an old artisan quarter with winding alleys and picturesque houses.
  • Over the Krämerbrücke to Erfurt: Erfurt's architecture is defined by a plethora of historic buildings spanning various eras. Noteworthy structures include the majestic Erfurt Cathedral of St. Mary, the medieval ensemble of the Krämerbrücke, the baroque town hall, the grand Petersberg Citadel, and numerous churches boasting richly adorned facades. The blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and other architectural styles renders Erfurt a truly impressive destination.
  • Discovering tranquility in the Ilm valley: The stunning Ilm Valley offers serene walks along picturesque riverbanks, delightful bike tours through charming countryside, and visits to historic towns like Bad Berka. Explore castles and gardens, and observe the region's diverse flora and fauna while basking in the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

With a short break, you can unwind from the hectic daily routine with just a few free days. Our travel specialists have selected beautiful hotels for you in Thuringia, where you can relax wonderfully. During the two cycling days, you will cover approximately 120 kilometers. Due to the hilly terrain, the stages are quite challenging, but the bike paths are all the more beautiful and well-maintained.

Indulge in a break from the daily grind - it's truly rejuvenating! Just four or five days are often sufficient, and you'll return home feeling practically revitalized. At many of our destinations, our team has curated a short vacation option in Germany just for you.
