The sandy beach of St. Peter Ording

Experience the best of both worlds with Eurobike over eight days. The coasts of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea offer distinct yet equally stunning landscapes. Along the way, you'll traverse the impressive Kiel Canal and, if fortunate, witness majestic giant ships. Enjoy picturesque lighthouses, maritime towns, and culinary delights inspired by the sea—have a wonderful time!

Your journey begins in the North Sea town of Husum, where numerous cultural attractions await before heading inland towards Schleswig. Cycle along the Schlei towards the Baltic Sea, where you should explore the charming town of Arnis and capture a photo with the Dutch mill in Kappeln. The route continues to Damp, known for its beautiful beaches, and to Eckernförde with its distinctive harbor.

En route to Rendsburg, you'll enjoy the stage alongside the impressive Kiel Canal, a spectacular waterway. Traditional landscapes and architecture await between the Eider and Treene rivers, while Friedrichstadt, your destination for the day, will captivate you with its charming canals. Before concluding your cycling tour back in Husum, soak in the atmosphere of the popular vacation resort of Sankt Peter-Ording. With its long sandy beaches, the picturesque Westerhever lighthouse, and the vastness of the sea, it offers a wonderful combination of natural beauty.

  • Watching ships and letting your thoughts wander: The Kiel Canal, also known as the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal, is an artificial waterway connecting the North Sea near Brunsbüttel with the Baltic Sea near Kiel. It stands as one of the busiest waterways globally, allowing ships to bypass the lengthy voyage around Scandinavia and considerably reducing travel durations.
  • Seaside serenity at Sankt Peter-Ording: Discover Sankt Peter-Ording on the North Sea coast, known for its long sandy beaches and characteristic pile dwellings. Immerse yourself in the refreshing North Sea air with leisurely walks along the beach, witness the unique spectacle of the sunset over the pile dwellings, and unwind in the numerous beach chairs. The picturesque coastal landscape beckons you to linger and unwind.
  • Baltic beauty in Eckernförde: This charming harbor town on the Baltic Sea, captivates with its maritime flair, historic harbor, and picturesque old town adorned with colorful half-timbered houses. Visit the seawater wave pool, take leisurely walks along the coast to explore the idyllic surroundings, and savor freshly caught fish in the local restaurants.

You'll cycle approximately 290 kilometers over six daily stages, benefiting from the flat coastal terrain that makes cycling enjoyable. Our on-site team handles luggage transport, allowing you to focus entirely on your activities. It's a fantastic region perfect for disconnecting from everyday life.

Relaxation and activity intertwine on cycling tours in northern Germany—views of the sea, stunning countryside, and picturesque fishing villages create a fantastic experience.

Itinerary at a glance

You'll discover the most beautiful spots of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea! The beach in St. Peter-Ording invites you to linger, and the Westerhever lighthouse is perfect for daydreaming. Cities like Arnis, Damp, and Kiel exude maritime flair.

The little town of Husum is shaped by the interplay of the tides. The North Sea extends to the inland port. Watch the ebb and flow in the middle of the town up close. Stroll through the narrow streets and alleyways and marvel at the picturesque gabled houses in different colours.

You are now leaving the North Sea behind and cycle along the Eider-Treene-Sorge Path to Hollingstedt, where you find the largest archeological monument in Northern Europe dating back to the Vikings: the Haithabu trading post and the Danewerk rampards. Soon you have reached your Day Finish, the lovelable town of Schleswig, which is situated directly on the banks of the Schlei. Gottolf Palace, the Baroque garden and the giant globe are certainly worth a visit.

The Schlei accompanies you on today’s stage. Between Schleswig and the transition to the open sea there are numerous pretty places, such as Arnis, the smallest town in Germany. Take a break here and enjoy the maritime flair. A little further you reach Kappeln, where you can marvel at the largest Dutch mill of the state, the ‚Hering‘-fence and the ‚Museumshafen‘ open air museum.

The Baltic Sea resort of Damp can be reached via the Schwansen peninsula. Damp’s four-kilometre long sandy beach offers you the opportunity to relax in a beach chair. Onwards through unspoilt nature, past old avenues, over rolling hills and green forests to Eckernförde. Spend the evening at the idyllic harbour with the marvellous promenade. Be sure to taste the freshly caught fish in one of the cosy restaurants.

Today’s stage takes you through the hinterland, past Lake Wittensee, to Rendsburg. Here you reach the Kiel Canal with the historic high bridge and transporter bridge. Would you like to cover more kilometres and are your legs still fit? Then alternatively cycle along the coast in the direction of Kiel. The Kiel Canal flows into the sea just before the Schleswig-Holstein state capital. It is one of the busiest waterways in the world and you will mostly follow it on your route to Rendsburg.

Stroll through the historic centre of Rendsburg with its narrow alleys, medieval squares and the old town hall. Back on your bike you will once again cycle through enchanting nature and small villages featuring houses with thatched roofs, where time seems to have stood still. The Dutch man town of Friedrichstadt with its ‚Gracht‘-canals is located between the rivers Eider and Treene and is absolutely worth a visit.

On the way to Tönning with its historic harbour and National Park-visitor centre you pass the well-known Hoyerswort manor house. After Tönning you pass the impressive Eider barrage. You soon reach St. Peter-Ording with its 12 km long flat sandy beach. From the dunes you have an unmistakable view over the houses on stilts, the whizzing sand yachts and the open sea. You should definitely plan a trip to Germany’s most famous lighthouse, Westerhever. Then take the train to Husum, your final Day Finish.
