This wonderful cycle tour starts in the northern German city of Lübeck. Before you cycle along the Baltic Sea, you still have enough time to explore Lübeck and its sights. Take a leisurely stroll through the old town, which offers a lot of culture. The impressive brick buildings will immediately catch your eye.

You should definitely visit the Marienkirche, the Holstentor and the Lübeck town hall. Would you like a break? Numerous shops and nice restaurants invite you to take a stroll and enjoy yourself. After the city trip, it’s time to hop on the saddle! Then you pedal towards Stralsund.

The Baltic Sea cycle tour runs through the incomparable coastal landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. You cycle comfortably along fine sandy beaches and old seaside resorts. Enchanting fishing villages line the beautiful cycle route along the Baltic Sea.

Itinerary at a glance

The marketplace of the Hanseatic city of Wismar is as charming as the beautiful nature along the Baltic Sea. You'll pass lighthouses and fishing villages, hop on the historic narrow-gauge railway Molli, and soon catch sight of Stralsund.

You start the tour in the magnificent old Hanseatic city of Lubeck which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

First through the spa town of Travemunde and then along the Baltic Sea coast. Cycling through the Brooker Wald nature reserve to Boltenhagen. From the cliffs you have a great view over the entire bay.

Mostly following the banks you cycle to the Hanseatic city of Wismar. Poel island with its long sandy beaches and the historic city walls dating back to the Thirty Years’ War is worth a visit.

On your way to Kuhlungsborn you will see cliff lines as well as wonderful beaches. Stroll through the English park Kamp in Bad Doberan or board the train „Molli“ that takes you to the beach.

In Warnemunde you should sit at the widest sandy beach of the Baltic Sea coast. Wustrow is located on a peninsula called „Fischland-Dars“ which used to be the border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania.

Today´s stage leads you through the hinterland to Warnemünde. Main attraction is its lighthouse which you can already see fro far away. You can step up a 30m high platform and enjoy the view of land and sea. Also worth a visit is the 530 m long jetty or the fishing houses, ships and yachts in the “Old Stream”, before you go by ferry (not incl.) to the high dune, through the heather of Rostock and the “Fishland” of Darß. Natural woods which reach until the beaches, fenlands and ulna fractures, sandbars and small islands wait to be discovered.

From far away you’ll see the three towers of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Its former importance as a trading city can still be seen in the old town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Itinerary at a glance

You start the tour in the magnificent old Hanseatic city of Lubeck which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

In Travemünde, you can make a stop at the oldest lighthouse in Germany, then continue along the Baltic Sea coast. Through the Brooker Wald nature reserve you reach Boltenhagen, the second oldest seaside resort in Mecklenburg, where you can see the entire bay from the cliffs. Alternatively, you can spend the night in Groß Schwansee.

Today, the route mostly follows the shore to the beautiful Hanseatic city of Wismar. After an extensive tour of the historic old town, it is worth making a detour to the harbor.

Today, you have the option to visit the island of Poel. Take the ferry to this small island, where you can enjoy the tranquility and have fun swimming at one of the many island beaches. Alternatively, you can cycle along the coast to the Baltic seaside resort of Kühlungsborn. If you're staying overnight in Warnemünde, you can catch the steam-powered narrow-gauge railway "Molli" from Kühlungsborn, which will conveniently take you to Heiligendamm. From there, it’s just a few more kilometers to Warnemünde.

Before discovering the Fischland-Darß-Zingst Peninsula today, you can visit Warnemünde's beach, which is the widest on the German Baltic coast. Or how about a detour to the Hanseatic city of Rostock? In Warnemünde, you can catch the ferry to Hohe Düne and continue to the peaceful town of Ribnitz-Damgarten, located on the Saale Bodden and known for its Amber Museum. Alternatively, you can explore the former fishing village of Wustrow or the artists' village of Ahrenshoop.

Explore the Darß Forest and the wild, romantic West Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. From Prerow, it can only be accessed on foot, by bike, or by carriage. Afterward, Cycle back to the mainland via Zingst to the former Swedish town of Barth.

Look forward to the last stage of your journey, the three towers of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund greet you from afar. Its former importance as a trading hub is still evident today. Enjoy the last evening of your trip through a stroll in the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its wonderful preservation.
