From the Danube city to the golden city
Explore a multitude of cultural treasures from Regensburg to Prague. Whether it's the UNESCO World Heritage Bavarian Old Town along the Danube, the grand cathedral in Pilsen, or a stroll across Prague's iconic Charles Bridge, there's something for everyone. Yet, it's not just the cities that dazzle—nature between them is equally as remarkable. Journey past castles and palaces amidst breathtaking scenery, savor culinary delights, and immerse in the rich tradition of beer brewing. Join us in the saddle for a seven-day adventure to Prague with Eurobike!
Take in the view of Regensburg from the Stone Bridge before embarking on your first leg to Cham. Following the Regen River initially, you'll soon enter the Bavarian Forest with its rugged and unspoiled nature.
Upon reaching Furth im Wald, you'll encounter the town of Drachenstich, Germany's oldest folk theater, followed shortly by the Czech border. Continuing through Domazlice, you'll soon arrive in Pilsen, passing through quaint villages along the way. Scenic landscapes await on your journey to Beroun. En route to the Golden City, you'll encounter the stunning Karlštejn Castle, tracing the Berounka River into the heart of the city—its captivating skyline is a sight to behold!
We recommend a good level of fitness for the route along the Regen and through the Bavarian Forest to Czechia. The stages range between 50 and 75 kilometers, with the sections between Cham and Beroun being particularly challenging. However, our luggage transfer service takes a significant burden off your shoulders, ensuring your suitcases await you at your next accommodation.
Close to home yet wonderfully diverse! With our cycling tours in Germany, you're spoiled for choice—whether it's mountains, lakes, the sea, or rivers. From crossing the Alps to exploring the Baltic Sea islands, Eurobike has you covered for your travel planning.
We recommend arriving early - this mediaeval city was named a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2006, so take some time before the start of the tour for a relaxed stroll through the streets.
After breakfast, the first leg of the journey begins. You will follow the river Regen the whole time and pass through magnificent deciduous forests, water meadows and virgin landscapes. Roding, widely known as the gateway to the Bavarian forest, is the ideal spot to take a lunch break. Following the many meanders of the river Regen further, you will soon reach the first day’s goal - Cham.
A tour of the over 1000-year-old Cham will enchant you before you hop on your bike for the next part of the tour. At first, you will follow the banks of the river Chamb, which will quickly lead you to the “Drachenstich” town Furth im Wald. The “Drachenstich” is Germany’s oldest folk theatre piece and re-enacts the slaying of a dragon, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year. On a tour through the dragon caves, you will find out all about the story of the Furth im Wald dragon, the theatre piece as well as the technology behind the world’s largest 4-legged walking robot. The Czech border is just a few kilometres away from Furth. Once across the border and on the Bohemian side, the road will lead you straight to Domazlice.
The charming Domazlice is sure to delight you. Nestled in untouched nature, the town has a lively folklore tradition. In the centre, there are numerous colourful Renaissance houses with pergolas. You will pass through splendid landscapes and visit lots of small villages on your bicycle. A good Pils is the perfect end to the day and makes up for any exertions along the way.
For large parts of today’s route, you will pedal your way through tranquil landscapes and nature parks. Small, idyllic villages like Dobřív are scattered along the way. Your goal, Beroun, invites one to linger a while, and its mediaeval city walls can easily be explored on foot.
The last step starts off by following the river Berounka. Soon you will reach Karlštejn. The High Gothic castle there was built in 1348 and is known far and wide. Shortly before Prague, the Berounka joins the Vltava, and this river will then lead you right into the city centre of Prague. The Czech metropolis is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. An evening stroll is the perfect end to this impression-filled bicycle tour.
Your tour ends after breakfast. Then you can either decide to extend your stay, or avail of our comfortable transfer service with the bicycle transport van.
The road quality varies widely. The route follows both well-paved cycle paths and bumpy, unsurfaced dirt tracks and forest trails. For the most part, you will cycle along separate cycle paths and secondary roads, with only a few sections featuring heavier traffic. Please note that the Czech part of the route includes some steep climbs and requires a good level of fitness. The signposting of the route is generally good
