The moated castle of Hülshoff

The Münsterland region brims with history and stories of European significance. Here, the Thirty Years' War found its conclusion, and the renowned poet Annette von Droste Hülshoff made her home and legacy. Architects crafted a wealth of elegant manors, castles, and palaces nestled in enchanting landscapes, including the biodiverse Hohe Ward Forest. Discover this captivating region on daily excursions from Münster—a city that enchants with its remarkable historic architecture and lively student life, set against a dynamic cultural backdrop.

Münster is the heart of your journey, enchanting visitors with its picturesque cityscape and lively culinary scene. We begin by dedicating the first cycling stage to exploring the city and its close surroundings, with delightful rides to the city harbor and the serene Aasee Lake. The next day, Münsterland’s historic treasures await: cycle along the scenic Dortmund-Ems Canal to discover the elegant Senden Water Castle, the storied Vischering Castle, and the grand Nordkirchen Palace.

On Day 4, follow in the footsteps of the writer and composer Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. You’ll visit her birthplace, Hülshoff Water Castle, and other homes where she lived. The final cycling tour leads you from Münster to Rinkerode, a charming gem with stately manor houses. Following the Werse Cycle Path, you’ll ride through the wooded Hohe Ward area and pass the waterworks of Hiltrup. Relax and savor the end of your Münster cycling vacation with a meal at a local restaurant and an evening in a cozy bar!

  • Magnificent architecture in the Münsterland Versailles: Nordkirchen Palace is a splendid Baroque masterpiece. Built in the 18th century, it captivates with its symmetrical architecture, ornate facades, and expansive, meticulously designed gardens. The estate includes several elegantly decorated wings, magnificent halls, and a charming palace park adorned with fountains and sculptures.
  • Münster between the city harbor and Prinzipalmarkt: The city blends historic charm with contemporary vibrancy. Once an important industrial harbor, the city port has transformed into a popular cultural and leisure district. Today, trendy bars, restaurants, art galleries, and the Kreativkai line the waterfront. The mix of historic architecture in the old town, like the Prinzipalmarkt, alongside a modern urban atmosphere, makes Münster a diverse and captivating travel destination.
  • The Hohe Ward, a beautiful forested area near Münster, offers a stunning natural landscape filled with dense woodlands, sparkling lakes, and open clearings. Well-marked cycling paths meander through this peaceful haven, passing historic waterworks and idyllic picnic spots. Birdwatching opportunities and the scent of pine and spruce enhance the immersive experience in nature.

The day excursions around Münster are perfect for leisure cyclists, covering between 45 and 65 kilometers on flat, well-maintained paths. Each evening, you'll return to your hotel, where you’ll stay for all five nights. Set in a lovely Münsterland park, the hotel offers a welcoming retreat for relaxation and enjoyment after each day’s adventure.

In the Eurobike repertoire, you'll find many more cycling tours in Central Germany. Cycle along beautiful riverbanks, visit grand castles, and soak in the atmosphere of historic cities.
