Lake Chiemsee is a beautiful blue colour. The biggest lake in Bavaria, also called the Bavarian Sea, is embedded in a gorgeous natural world. This idyllic scenery has been appreciated equally by the ancient Romans, the archbishops of Salzburg and the Bavarian dukes. Experience history and stories around deep blue lakes, around Bavarian traditions and cuisine. Whilst cycling, you have tons of time to immerse yourself into this historic idyll!

With its idyllic lakes, dreamlike mountain formations and quaint villages, Germany's largest federal state is full of blue and white stories. A visit to the beer garden, a pretzel and a fluffy bread dumpling are just as much a part of a cycle tour in Bavaria as the historical sights and picturesque landscapes.

The famed "Bavarian Sea" entices with its vast, glimmering waters framed by breathtaking mountain panoramas. As you journey towards the stunning Berchtesgadener Land, the first leg of your adventure leads you through the picturesque "Bergener Moos" to the enchanting spa town of Inzell. Here, you can wander through this delightful village, where beautifully painted houses exude charm and character. Your route continues along the serene Saalach River, guiding you towards the historic town of Bad Reichenhall, where natural beauty and rich heritage await.

Renowned for its centuries-old salt production, a visit to the saltworks is a must. On Day 4, you embark on the final leg of your three-stage journey. You’ll begin by cycling along flat paths leading to Berchtesgaden. The last few kilometers of this shorter stage guide you to the famous Königssee, where the breathtaking scenery unfolds before you. The expansive lake, framed by majestic mountains, is truly spectacular, with the iconic church nestled along the shoreline and the towering Watzmann prominently rising in the background.

  • Dipping your toes in the "Bavarian Sea: Bavaria's largest lake truly resembles the sea with its vastness stretching out like an endless expanse. The Chiemsee is particularly famous for its enchanting islands: Herreninsel, where the stunning Herrenchiemsee Palace stands as a breathtaking tribute to Versailles, crafted by the visionary King Ludwig II. Just a stone's throw away lies the picturesque Fraueninsel, celebrated for its charming monastery and a serene atmosphere that invites visitors to unwind and soak in the beauty of this idyllic setting.
  • Take the oldest cable car in the world to the Predigtstuhl: Taking a ride on the Predigtstuhlbahn in Bad Reichenhall is an extraordinary experience, renowned as the oldest original large-cabin cable car in the world. Since its opening in 1928, this remarkable gondola ascends to the summit of Predigtstuhl, perched at an impressive 1,600 meters. As you glide upwards, you are enveloped in stunning panoramas of the majestic Alps and the enchanting Saalach Valley, where each breathtaking view seems to reveal nature’s artistry at its finest. This unforgettable journey is a true celebration of the beauty that surrounds you.
  • Breathtaking Panoramas in Inzell: Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, Inzell offers pristine air, after all, this charming town is a recognized spa destination. At the ice skating hall, athletes from around the globe prepare for competitions, adding to the town's vibrant spirit. A highlight awaits you right in the town center, where the beautifully adorned facades of the houses showcase the exquisite style of Lüftlmalerei, a form or mural art, captivating visitors with their intricate designs and rich cultural heritage.

On predominantly flat paths, you'll cover between 20 and 45 kilometers each day. This short getaway is perfectly suited for beginners and leisure cyclists, allowing ample time to savor the journey along the way. You can relax and unwind in the lovely accommodations our team has thoughtfully selected for you, ensuring a delightful and rejuvenating experience throughout your journey.

Gradually the mountains become higher and higher. The terrain of the cycling route however stays nearly flat. Through the ‚Bergener moor’ at the foot of the Chiemgauer local mountain, called ‚Hochfelln’ (1674m), the path leads you via Bad Adelholzen with its mineral spring to Siegsdorf. From there along the river red Traun onwards into the idyllic Inzell. Special artwork, called ‚Lüftlmalerei’ on the flower-embellished houses are typical for this climatic health-resort.

The route runs narrowly between the mountains via Piding around the Hochstaufen and along the Saalach to Bad Reichenhall. Since 1890 Bad Reichenhall has been an approved health resort and “spa town”. The saline Bad Reichenhall markets its branded salt as “Reichenhaller Markensalz” in all of Germany and beyond. Opportunity for a “wellness day” or for a ride up to the 1600m high “Predigtstuhl” with the world’s oldest and legendary cable car.
