Langeoog beach

Eastern Friesland – Island Hopping with charm

Exploring the Wadden Sea National Park

8 Days / 7 Nights
Easy
Langeoog beach

The Frisian Islands have their own charm, their own character. The wide sea, the waves and beaches coin the island Borkum, Norderney and Langeoog. High‐sea climate on Borkum, the calm on Norderney and the almost car free Langeoog. Extreme is the charm of North‐Germany, extreme but cordial.

Your cycling vacation begins in the hometown of the renowned Otto Waalkes, where a visit to his Otto Huus with museum is highly recommended. On Day 2, the program takes you to Borkum, the first of the three islands. The crossing lasts about two hours, after which you'll explore stunning landscapes with seemingly endless sandy beaches. Back on the mainland, you'll begin a stage from Emden to Norden, passing through the maritime village of Greetsiel, where you can enjoy a stroll through the harbor.

On Day 4, you'll experience the beauty of Norderney, particularly the lighthouse, which captivates with the region's distinctive charm. In the evening, you’ll leave Norderney and the following day, head to Langeoog for two nights. But first, you’ll get to explore the beautiful Dornum Water Castle. For your final stage back on the mainland, you’ll follow the traces of pirates and maritime traditions as you make your way from Bensersiel and Aurich back to Emden.

  • Maritime flair and the best entertainment in Emden: The city is known for its historic inland harbor, where museum ships, such as the rescue cruiser "Georg Breusing" and the lightship "Amrumbank," can be explored. The Otto Huus, a small museum dedicated to the famous comedian Otto Waalkes, offers entertaining displays. The venerable Große Kirche and the historic town hall reflect Emden's long history.
  • Fine sandy beaches and the fascination of the Wadden Sea: Borkum, Norderney, and Langeoog each offer their own unique natural treasures. With expansive sandy beaches, enchanting dune landscapes, and picturesque villages, these North Sea islands beckon you to explore and unwind. The crisp sea breeze and the soothing sound of the waves create an ideal setting for relaxation. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage, the Wadden Sea presents exceptional opportunities to discover the region's diverse flora and fauna.
  • The beautiful backdrop of the Dornum moated castle: An impressive historical landmark in the village of Dornum, East Frisia, this castle, surrounded by a moat, dates back to the 14th century and has been carefully restored over the years. A fine example of classical architecture in the region, the castle is complemented by beautiful park grounds, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

You’ll explore three islands off the coast of East Frisia, where, in addition to the scenic cycling stages, you can also enjoy ferry rides between the islands. Each day, you’ll cover up to 65 kilometers on well-maintained, flat bike paths that follow the region's gentle topography. On the islands, you can structure your days at your own pace.

A cycling vacation in northern Germany offers stunning landscapes, smooth, flat cycling paths, and the unique charm of the locals. Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, a cycling tour in southern Germany brings equally spectacular natural beauty and warm hospitality, though the mountains offer an entirely different kind of landscape.
