Itinerary at a glance

Bordeaux and Toulouse are true urban gems along the Garonne Canal, with picturesque canals and vineyards in between. In the church of Mas d'Agenais, you can find a genuine Rembrandt, and in Moissac, there's the historic Abbey of Saint-Pierre.

Arrival in Bordeaux and check-in in your hotel, you can get started with your bikes. You can either visit Bordeaux by bike or by foot.

Once you cross the Garonne River in Bordeaux, follow the "Roger Lapébie" bike path (named after the French cyclist) through vineyards and forests. This route follows an old railway line that takes you to the heart of the "Entre-deux-mers." You will leave it to reach your accommodation in Rauzan, a medieval village dominated by its castle and tower.

You leave Rauzan and take the cycle path. It ends in Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, a fortified village dating back to the 13th century. Follow the route along small country roads until you reach the Canal des-deux-mers in La Réole, a small village overlooking the Garonne. You then follow the canal to Marmande, the Tomato Capital!

Follow the canal all the way to Agen. Two stops are a must. The first is in "Le Mas-d'Agenais," home to the St. Vincent Church, a gem of the French Renaissance, along with Rembrandt's "Christ on the Cross." The second stop is in Damazan, a fortified village from the 13th century. You then head to Agen via one of the longest aqueduct bridges.

This stage continues through Valence d'Agen, a medieval village with a rich cultural and natural heritage, where cycling tourists are warmly welcomed. You arrive in Moissac, an essential stop on the pilgrimage route of St. James of Compostela. Visit the old Benedictine abbey, its cloister, and the church, whose tympanum is one of the largest examples of Romanesque art.

On this final stage, you can enjoy the tranquility of the canal before entering the lively and famous "Ville Rose." The villages along the way invite you to stop for lunch or to relax. You will reach Toulouse via the Canal du Midi, away from traffic. Be sure to visit the city center! Stroll through the renowned 'Place du Capitole,' see the Basilica of St. Sernin, and explore the Jacobin Monastery...
