Boats and colourful houses in Nyhavn in Copenhagen

In Denmark, breathtaking nature meets vibrant urban hotspots. Copenhagen, known as one of the world’s most bike-friendly cities, is perfect for exploring by bike. In East Zealand, you’ll find the diverse nature park Amager Fælled and the stunning Roskilde Fjord. Time and again, you'll cycle along the picturesque coastline, with plenty of charming cafés and top-notch restaurants to stop at along the way.

Your cycling vacation begins in the Danish capital, which offers something for every taste – whether it’s in terms of cuisine, culture, or architecture. The first stage takes you with a view of the Baltic Sea, crossing the beautiful Amager Fælled National Park. Your destination is the charming town of Køge, before you set off the next day towards the Stevns Peninsula. Enjoy the sight of Gjorslev Castle and admire the dramatic cliffs of Stevns Klint.

On Day 4, the route takes you from the coast along the Hedebostien cycling path inland to Roskilde. After exploring the charming city with its historic center, the following day introduces you to the diverse Roskilde Fjord. The day is yours to enjoy at leisure, with plenty of options for excursions, whether it’s a visit to Ledreborg Castle or an outing to Frederikssund. From Roskilde, you’ll cycle back to Copenhagen, where the vibrant atmosphere of the Danish capital awaits once more.

  • A taste of Scandinavian air in the capital: Copenhagen – a city of picturesque canals, colorful houses, and vibrant culture. Visit the magnificent Amalienborg Palace, take a stroll through the Tivoli Gardens, and explore the lively Nyhavn. On two wheels, discover trendy neighborhoods like Nørrebro, and in between, indulge in the delights of Scandinavian cuisine.
  • Recharge your batteries in the great outdoors: Amager Fælled is a vast nature park near Copenhagen, where the diverse landscape of meadows, wetlands, forests, and lakes will captivate you. Whether you’re birdwatching or enjoying a picnic in the peaceful surroundings, it’s the perfect place to unwind and find some well-deserved relaxation.
  • Roskilde town and fjord: The Roskilde Fjord delights with its idyllic landscape of coastlines, islands, and marshlands. Be sure to visit the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum and the UNESCO-listed Roskilde Cathedral. Enjoy the nature reserves and the charming villages that line the fjord.

Denmark's mostly flat landscapes make for easy cycling, blending activity with enjoyment. Well-maintained and often brand-new bike paths enhance the experience, while the many sights along the way provide the perfect highlights to this seven-day journey.

Whether it's the bustling metropolis or the serene Baltic coast – a cycling holiday in Denmark is wonderfully diverse and easy to enjoy. Just like the planning, which is taken care of by our experienced team for you.

Itinerary at a glance

One of Denmark's oldest cities is Køge, which you can reach after a ride from Copenhagen through Fælled National Park. The steep cliffs of the Stevns Peninsula offer breathtaking views, as does the Roskilde Fjord.

The Danish capital has a lot to offer. Stroll through the historic city centre or visit the well-known amusement park Tivoli.

The first cycle stage will lead along the so-called Køge bay, with outstanding views to the Baltic Sea. The national park Amager Fælled is absolutely free of traffic and its scenic landscape will impress you. For those who are interested in art we recommend to visit Arken Museum of Modern Art. Køge belongs to one of the oldest cities of Denmark and is located directly on the coast. The white sand beaches invite for a jump into the cool water for a refresh.

Today´s trip will lead you to peninsula of Stevns. The road goes along the coast that will quickly take you to Strøby Ladeplads with its numerous holiday houses. Later on, the path goes inland where you pass city of Magleby and Gjorslev castle and finally reach the UNESCO World Heritage Stevns Klint. Steep coast and old church of Højerup invite you to linger to enjoy the breathtaking views. After, in a short while you will reach Rødvig and the idyllic village of Fakse Ladeplads that is located directly by the sea, from there you can take a direct train back to Køge (not included).

After Køge, the first part of the route will go along the coast to Karlstrup. The road after, will gently take you away from the coast to explore the inland of this beautiful country. You will cycle along the so-called Hedebostien Cycle Path, which has recently newly renovated and now allows a direct connection between Køge Bay and Roskilde Fjord. You will experience new breathtaking scenic impressions, a beautiful change from the coastal paths. Roskilde has a rich historical past. Take your time for a stroll through the historic city center and visit the famous Roskilde Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today you have 3 options of how to spend this day by choosing between 3 routes. The shortest one will take you to Lejre, the Land of Legends, a 43-hectare "outdoor laboratory" for experimental archeology. Another contains a visit to the beautiful castle Ledreborg with its park. And for the ones who want to challenge themselves we provide a choice of a worthy day trip west to Holbæk or north of the fjord along to Frederikssund. Whatever you choose, comfortable train connections are available for a return trip and each variant will charm you in its own way.

Today´s stage leads you back to the starting point of your bike tour, the Danish capital Copenhagen. From Albertslund, a recently built bike path will take you to the center, almost free of traffic. In the afternoon there is enough time for you to explore the city on your own. During a stroll, you can fulfil all the wonderful impressions that you have already made on your bike tour through East Zealand.
