Cycling group on the cycle path along Lake Traunsee with Mount Traunstein in the background

“Griaß di und Servas”, is how you are greeted in the picturesque Salzkammergut! The cycle tour in the district of lakes offers you living tradition, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and beautiful landscapes. During the seven-day journey you stay overnight in the 4-star hotel ‘Goiserer Mühle’ in the quiet spa town of Bad Goisern. Special ‘Zuckal’: the award-winning cuisine of the hotel. This tour is ideal for the passionate leisure cyclist. Each day begins in Bad Goisern. And every day you get to know another part of the Salzkammergut. Look forward to wondrous lakes, tempting pastries and water-framed landscapes!

Where Hubert von Goisern wrote hits like ‘Brenna tuats guat’, and the birthplace of the ‘Goiserer’ (sturdy hiking boots), is where you will spend your nights. From picturesque Bad Goisern you cycle to lakeside towns of Gmunden, St Wolfgang and Hallstatt. You will visit, for example, Sisi’s Teahouse, the Royal Villa in Bad Ischl or the famous hotel ‘Weißes Rössl’. Culinary delights and natural wonders round off your cycle tour in the Salzkammergut.

  • Treats as far as the eye can see: Try a delicious Zaunerstollen (included in the price) in the traditional confectioner ‘Zauner’ in Bad Ischl.
  • The team of the 4-star hotel ‘Goiserer Mühle’ will fulfil your wishes: The wellness hotel impresses not only with its excellent gourmet cuisine, but also with a fine spa area. Relax in the steam bath after a long cycle.
  • World Heritage Site Hallstatt: It’s not only the picturesque village built into the mountains that’s worth a visit. Lake Hallstatt is also home to the oldest salt mine in the world!

Important information about the cycle tour in the Salzkammergut

Itinerary at a glance

The fantastic view from the Schafberg to the Wolfgangsee, the crystal clear water of the Toplitzsee, a splash in the Traunsee - the pastry in the traditional Café Zauner in Bad Ischl tastes even finer before Hallstatt calls!

(different order for thursday arrivals)

The hotel staff will give you your travel documents and rental bikes (if booked).

In the morning, you will take the train to Gmunden. The beautiful lake resort invites you for a walk. We recommend visiting Orth castle and the ceramic chimes in the town hall's tower. On the bike path, you will cycle along the river Traun to Ebensee. Then you will continue further along the Traun until you soon arrive in Bad Ischl. The former imperial city attracts visitors with its Imperial Park, Imperial Villa and Sissi's teahouse. From here there are only a few more kilometres until you will be back at your hotel.

The day will start with a transfer to Gosau. From there, you will be able to ride your bike to lake Vorderen Gosausee. From there you will have a marvellous view. On your way back, you will cycle along the river Gosaubach to Lake Hallstatt and then further along the river Traun back to Bad Goisern.

First, you will ride your bike along the river Traun to Bad Ischl. The river Ischler Ache flows to Lake Wolfgangsee and then further on to St. Wolfgang. If you have time, you should not only visit the White Horse Inn and the church, but you should also go up the Schafberg mountain by taking the rack railway! A short ferry ride will take you to the other side of the lake and the bike path will take you via lake Nussensee and back to the hotel.

Today, there is plenty of time to explore the World Heritage area around Lake Hallstatt. Magnificent nature and the oldest salt mine in the world, the Dachstein Ice Caves, or a relaxing boat trip – there is something for everyone! During this tour, you will always cycle along the lake's edge and all of the attractions are close to the route.

The train will take you to Bad Aussee. There, you will have the opportunity to take a trip to the lakes Grundlsee and Toplitzsee. Lake Altausseer See is located on the way to the valley Rettenbachtal, which leads to Bad Ischl. Now you should definitely try the famous pastry Zaunerstollen (included in the tour price) at the Cafè Zauner. Because Emperor Franz Josef has already enjoyed these delicious pastries! After cycling a few more kilometres, you will get back to Bad Goisern.
