Mr. and Mrs. Reischl from Salzburg embarked on the cycling classic from the royal Turin to San Remo. We are delighted that they have gathered many awesome impressions during this cycling holiday and sent us a travel story as their feedback. They also took lots of great photos on their cycling holiday. We would love to share their impressions with you here:
After a 7-hour car journey we reached Turin and our Hotel Boston. It is 9am in the morning and the friendly receptionist surprised us with the news that our room is already ready for us. The most important sights are also pointed out to us on the map. At 10am we make our way into the centre and enjoy our first espresso. Turin consists of 17 kilometres worth of arcades, the majority of them filled with shops and boutiques. Naturally we could not resist this.
In the evening we enjoy a welcome meeting and introduction to the Tour of Cesare – really precise and detailed – and we also receive our e-bikes.
The rest of the evening we spend in the centre in an excellent Osteria.
The route starts on the right side of the Po-riverbank in Turin. This is a popular spot for people living in Turin to do some sports. We are leaving Turin along the riverbank heading inland. We mainly cycle on cycle paths through beautiful forests along little rivers. Towards 3pm we finally reach Pinerolo. After a short rest in a café we cycle to our Hotel Barrage. A fantastic hotel located somewhat outside of Pinerolo. After a short rest we cycle back into the village and enjoy a pasta dish in an Osteria below the arcades. Afterwards we visit the basilica situated on top of the hills of Pinerolo, which naturally was no problem on our e-bikes set in ‘High Modus’!
Today our route leads us through remote but picturesque places, mostly through orchards. The weather is perfect and we replenish our energy at a fruit farm with fresh fruit. In Cavour we enjoy an espresso. About 2pm we reach Saluzzo and take another break in a café at the town square, sheltered from the sun in splendid arcades. After two well-earned glasses of beer we check in to the Hotel Antiche Mura, a fantastic hotel with an especially warm welcome. We are even allowed to help ourselves to some free mineral water. In the evening we try a restaurant recommended in the route book. Very delicious!
Again the route leads us through little villages and giant fruit plantations. The weather is wonderfully hot and we enjoy the ride. Towards the end of the tour the terrain becomes quite hilly. Our last energy reserves get used up, but in the distance we can already make out our Day Finish on top of a hill: Mondovi. In the evening we take a cable car ride to a wine tavern, where a 3-course tasting menu awaits. On the terrace of the Cantina Bonaparte we have definitely managed to grab the best spot! From there we have a wonderful view over the vineyards.
Today the most difficult tour awaits. Straight from the start two mountain classifications present us with a challenge. We cycle through hilly scenery, past vineyards and always slightly uphill. In the evening we make use of anther restaurant recommendation by Eurobike and enjoy a bottle of Prosecco with our pasta…
After an extensive breakfast we head off, namely slightly uphill for 30 km. A beautiful route along the course of the river. Once we reach the top, a beautiful view over the entire valley awaits. After that we only descend in serpentines. Unfortunately the strong headwind that day causes us to perspire profusely nevertheless. We then reach Albenga, a stunning place with narrow alleyways in the centre. And then finally the first view onto the sea!
In our hotel we enjoy a cordial welcome, shortly afterwards we are back at the sea in our swimwear.
The most leisurely and probably most beautiful cycling tour is ahead of us. Twenty kilometres from Albenga to San Remo, along a fabulous cycle path directly at the sea. To the right of the cycle path oleander protrudes along the route, to the left we have sea view. Leisurely we cycle towards San Remo. Shortly before the start of it we enjoy a fruit cocktail at a beach bar. After the check-in in Hotel Lolli Palace we explore San Remo with its gorgeous alleyways and the many shops, restaurants and bars. We spend the evening in a nice pub together with other cyclist-friends.
A truly fabulous cycling holiday with stunning and varied route selections draws to an end… We look forward to a next time!
