It’s unbelievable how time flies! This year Eurobike is celebrating its 30th birthday. Read here how the idea for Eurobike came about and why the best ideas often require a little humour and boldness, how the company has developed and everything about our ultimate goal: having completely satisfied guests on our tours.
The company founders Herbert Würtinger and Walter Schmid met at a young age - Herbert was Walter's teacher! After school, the two lost touch, but as we all know, you always see someone at least twice in life. Their paths crossed again a few years later when both were employed by a well-known travel company in Austria. The love of cycling, a sociable disposition and entrepreneurial flair were always common to both of them, and so the idea of founding a company together was born in 1991 during a company outing
in 1991 during a company outing in Innsbruck - almost as a joke at the time. At the end of the year, the company "Radwandern" was founded within Würtinger & Partner GmbH. Just one year later, the first edition of the Eurobike catalogue was published with the very first original tour, the "Ten Lakes Tour" - to this day an absolute cycling classic, right on our doorstep. In 1993 Herbert and Walter decided to found a new company: the foundation stone of "Eurofun Touristik" with the brand "Eurobike" was laid.
In order to make our travel programme constantly more attractive, we worked intensively on the development of new cycle tours over the years that followed. And with great success, because today, 30 years later, Eurobike offers a total of 434 cycle tours across Europe. Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden and many other European countries can now be explored from the saddle of a bike. In addition to "classic" cycle tours, tours with bike & boat, family tours, short holidays, tours based in one hotel and cycle tours with charm have made it into our range and offer the right form of active recreation outdoors for everyone.
Herbert and Walter undoubtedly put their heart and soul into building up and developing the company, always looking for new challenges and open to new ideas. If the concept works for cycling, why not for hiking? This is how the brand "Eurohike Walking holidays" was born in 2004. Since then, the destinations around Germany's highest mountain, the Swiss and Austrian alpine regions as well as charming coastal hikes have provided our hiking guests with active relaxation away from everyday life and are in no way inferior to our cycle tours.
From the very beginning, five highly motivated employees full of drive stood by the side of the founders. Today, in addition to the managing directors Thomas Schmid and Verena Sonnenberg, 36 employees are tasked with ensuring the well-being of our cycling guests. Regular team activities, annual company trips and great employee benefits promote individual satisfaction and a good working relationship. Cohesion, teamwork and mutual support are essential for a well-functioning company and probably also play a part in our long existence.
The trend remains, more and more people are drawn to nature and wonderful cycle tours in the fresh air. Our guests enjoy excellent support from our experienced travel specialists, from the booking to the journey itself. The well-being and satisfaction of our customers is our top priority: the choice of cycle routes, the smooth transfer of luggage from hotel to hotel and the selected feel-good accommodation ensure a stress-free cycling holiday with the enjoyment factor.
A shared passion, an idea, a lot of hard work and diligence later, we are now in 2022 and celebrating our 30th company anniversary. However, one thing has not changed over the past three decades: the desire to make our customers happy. We look forward to many more active years with you by our side!
